Black History Year is being celebrated throughout the University of Westminster. Coops Group was given the remit to design, manufacture and install hi-tack wall vinyls in a corridor and a social area within the New Cavendish and Regent Street campuses, encapsulating the essence of black history and ensuring recognition of the significant impact Black people have had on society.

This was an exciting project for our team who quickly got to work bringing in elements of the black power movement, colours associated with Black History Month and many aspects of the African American community. Honorary Doctorates including Baroness Lawrence, Levi Roots and Billy Ocean, pioneers and widely recognised for their commendable work in each of their fields were also portrayed. On approval, the Coops Group certified fitters did their usual pristine job of the application.

Honorary Doctorate Levi Roots was on hand to unveil the wall and said "The University of Westminster’s mural celebrating Black History is absolutely brilliant and inspirational. It serves to remind its students and visitors of the roles people of colour played in the development of the UK and the positive effects they had on countries and economies around the world. The excellent mural also underscores the significance of the Windrush Generation and sets a precedence on how the University is willing to challenge the current narratives around Windrush and the contribution of black people to world history. More love LR.” (University Of Westminster)

Coops Group Managing Director, Scott Cooper said "Another amazing job by the Coops team, we are extremely proud to be part of this wonderful initiative".
